Research Interests

My main scientific interest is in the natural history and evolution of parasitic wasps, particularly Chalcidoidea, and their relationships with their host organisms. On the informatics end, I am interested in public databases and everything about making information about organisms easier to be found.
TL; DR: parasitic wasps and biodiversity informatics.

SeBiVix 2018

I'll be teaching a short course along with Mr. Ricieri Dall'Orto and Dr. Marcelo Tavares on Curatorial Techniques for Entomological Collections at UFES, October 16-18, 2018. The course is open to the general public and aims to encourage the interest and engagement, especially of local biologists, with  collections. More information here (in Portuguese).

VII SIMBIOMA

PrintI'll be presenting an invited talk on International Biodiversity Databases and Networks at the VII SIMBIOMA - Simposio sobre a Biodiversidade da Mata Atlântica in Santa Teresa, Espirito Santo, June 7-10, 2018. The event is open to the public and organized by the National Institute for the Atlantic Forest (INMA) and SAMBIO. More information about the event can be found here

Introduction to Biodiversity Informatics

I'll be teaching a graduate course at PPGBAN-UFES, Vitória, that aims to introduce basic concepts of biodiversity informatics and usage, January 22-29, 2018. The course is largely based on the Biodiversity Informatics Training Curriculum and targets graduate students in Biological Sciences, but it is open to the community pending agreement with instructor.

ECN and ESA 2017

Are you at the Annual Meeting of the ESA in Denver?
Interested in biodiversity data? We digitize all this information, but what can we do with that? Can we predict waves of pests? Can we train computers to identify bugs? Want to talk about projects?
Check out our symposium on Tuesday (November 7)! --
or stop by the iDigBio booth, where I should be most of the time!

ESC/ESM Joint Annual Meeting and Western Forum on Pest Management, Winnipeg, MB

I will be with a poster and a table for people to come try the identification tools in the Mobile-IPM app during the 2017 meeting of the Entomological Society of Canada in the cozy Winnipeg, Manitoba. Thanks to ESC for the Carr Award, which helped me come and continue expanding these keys!
At this point it is really important for us to get feedback... so if you're there please stop by!
